Diehard fans may remember the frustrating tale of Dr. Rogoff – but to those who haven’t heard the tale or who have forgotten, click here.
I stopped seeing him, yet somehow he continues to make my life difficult. I recently received a bill from his office for an UNGODLY amount of money. I was baffled as to WTF it could be for – and I shoulda known, it was the CT scan from hell.
He never mentioned that it would cost me ONE BAJILLION DOLLARS. Nope, he just said go get it. So I thought it would cost, well, not enough to mention.
BAD DOCTORS ARE BAD.
If you’re a doctor, ProTip: don’t be an asshat. Mention when things are expensive, I know you know when they are.
Read your other post on this. What a mess from start to finish. Did you mention to your OB that things didn’t go well? Otherwise he may assume patient’s have good experiences there and keep referring them there. Even as an insider, I have to ask and ask around before I feel comfortable heading somewhere to see the doctor. And it still doesn’t always go all that great.
Oh believe me, I let my OB know that he was awful. He seemed a little baffled but apologized and gave me the names of some other doctors – this time without saying they’re awesome, just saying they exist and I could try them. Haha luckily I found someone that’s alright. He’s not awesome but he’s honest and to the point, which I appreciate.
Referring doctors is hard I know. There are tons of sites where patients can review doctors and even then you see shining recommendations right next to damning bad reviews. It’s a tricky thing because there’s so many aspects, from professional things like cost, time spent with patients, and politeness, to personal things like opposing viewpoints, clashing personalities, and that illusive “bedside manner.” My OB is my favorite doctor I’ve ever had, but my sister hates him and found another doctor. She confessed that part of it was that he was a male and she just wasn’t comfortable with that, but she also finds him “too silly.” I appreciate his sense of humor, especially when I’ve got an incurable disease and could easily spend a lot of time bursting into tears in his office. To each his own!
But I can’t imagine anyone liking Dr. Rogoff. lol. I’ve actually met many fellow doctors who really like him and are good friends with him – he just seems so inept on a patient level, though. Perhaps he’s better suited to the scholarly side of medical science, rather than the people side.
A very objective assessment! You are very gracious!
PROBABLY ANOTHER REASON WHY I QUIT SEEING MEDICAL DOCTORS MANY YEARS AGO– I SEE A NATURAL DOCTOR WHEN I HAVE TO & I NO LONGER TAKE ANY CHEMICAL DRUGS–& HAVE NOT FOR YEARS & YEARS & YEARS– TOOOOOOOOOOOOO MANY REALLY BAD EXPERIENCES– TOOOO MANY TIMES I PAID A MEDICAL EXPERT TO TELL ME I HAD NO CHANCE OF RECOVERY & TO GO HOME & GET MY AFFAIRS IN ORDER—
Doctors can be so out of touch. However I’ve had run ins with similar problems with natural doctors, masseuses, etc. – like I said before, your health is so personal it’s a lot more like a romantic relationship than a professional one! Clashing personalities can be a death sentence to any relationship.
To be fair, though, all the natural approaches I’ve taken were at least up front about cost!
This his horrible!
